The Bill and Jean Lane Education Center at Edgewood Park and Natural Preserve is staffed entirely by volunteers. Are you enthusiastic about nature? Comfortable talking to people? Responsible and reliable? Help us keep the Bill and Jean Lane Education Center open for visitors. Being a host is easy and fun!
Interact with Visitors
Education Center volunteers engage guests in a way that maximizes the visitors’ enjoyment and understanding of the Center, its exhibits, and Edgewood Natural Preserve. Volunteers new to Edgewood participate with the support of docents who are familiar with Edgewood and its natural history.
Each volunteer staffs the Center for 3.5 hours about once per month, or as much as once per week, throughout the year. Shifts are available 9:15 am – 12:45 pm on Wednesday, Saturday, and Sunday, or 12:45 pm – 4:15 pm Saturday and Sunday. We make it easy for you to set up your commitments ahead of time, so you can participate on dates that work with your personal schedule.
New volunteers learn on the job. Each new volunteer is paired with a host who is already familiar with the Education Center and Edgewood Natural Preserve. Volunteers also have access to supportive written and video information from which they can learn about Edgewood, the Education Center, its exhibits, and enhancing their communication with guests.
Do you have skills or experience you would like to offer at the Center? We currently need support for making videos, building web sites, organizing events, writing training materials, developing marketing tools, and native gardening. Let us know how you can help – we probably have a task for you.
